.coop eNewsletter

April 30, 2009

Welcome to the New .Coop eNewsletter

We're starting off small with some very special announcements but we hope you will help us build a newsletter that provides you with information that you need about the .coop community on the Internet.

Additional features for future editions include a Co-op Profile where we take a look at some of the cooperatives around the world that are using .coop and get them to share their experiences. We also plan to highlight .coop programs and activities and news from the Internet domain community that may have an impact on .coop users.

To better serve you, we welcome your comments, constructive suggestions and contributions for future quarterly editions. Please send these to us at support@nic.coop.

This first newsletter is going to all .coop name holders but others can sign up on the www.coop  website. You can also sign up for our RSS feed in the Registry News area on the website.
Please read on for some exciting news for .coop users - and thanks for your support of .coop -the co-op brand on the Internet.

New Map-Based .Coop Directory Launched on 29 April

DotCoop is proud to announce its improved member directory at www.directory.coop. The new map-based service provides the following benefits:

  • The dotCoop directory has geo-tagged every resolving .coop domain into its new, map-based directory. This is provided free of charge with the registration and resolution of a .coop domain.
  • The dotCoop directory enables every member to add video, photo and contact information to their listing. Each member also has their own, unique map - and in turn, their own unique map URL, enhancing search engine optimization for their domain.
  • The dotCoop directory helps members share their maps via custom widgets. Each member map has a unique widget that can be posted on social networks, member websites and other partners thereby generating additional traffic to member sites.

DotCoop invites owners of .coop domains to edit, update and enhance their listing by visiting http://www.directory.coop .

About SiteSee:
The new dotCoop directory is powered by SiteSee, a powerful marketing tool that combines customized online maps with videos, pictures and additional content to increase traffic to member directories from search engines. SiteSee's built-in technology also enables organizations to share their directories via social networking sites. For more information or to create your own directory, visit www.sitesee.com

Submit your Global Awards Entry Today!

The deadline for entry for the first ever Global Awards for Cooperative Excellence is coming up on 31 May. There is no cost to enter and the entire process is online and available in English, French and Spanish at www.globalawards.coop

There are three awards available based on the size of your co-op's revenue or assets. So every size of co-op has the potential to win!

The award asks you to provide information in five different areas that connect your business activities and cooperative principles. You can then attach any supporting documents that illustrate the activities or initiatives that you identify in your responses. If you don't have items in every area, that's fine. Some co-ops might be working on a phased plan and addressing particular issues now and tackling other issues at a future time. Tell us what you've done so far.

Go to the site to view the questions. Create your responses and then go to www.globalawards.coop  to put in contact information, attach your documents and you're done! It's that easy.

Be sure to submit your entry today to get the recognition your co-op deserves on the international stage- in Geneva, Switzerland at the International Co-operative Alliance meeting in November 2009! Questions? Email at support@nic.coop  or call us on +1-202-383-5453.
